Best of the Best: Meet the Apos Ray 6SN7 Reserve Vacuum Tube

Nope. Plugs right in and looks great too:

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

Oh thanks! Somehow I missed that. He also mentions that the sound is highly position dependent, which is surprising to me. Maybe if you get the driver too low something gets in the way. I know that Grell mentioned the driver is low so that it doesn't rest on your cheekbone and cause any bone...

Best of the Best: Meet the Apos Ray 6SN7 Reserve Vacuum Tube

Nice review. Are you going to review the 6SN7 Reserve though?

Best of the Best: Meet the Apos Ray 6SN7 Reserve Vacuum Tube

Yes. I was honestly surprised at the difference considering the Lyr+ is a hyrbid tube amp. Still not as good as my other non-hybrid tube amps, but noticeably better than the stock tube.

Best of the Best: Meet the Apos Ray 6SN7 Reserve Vacuum Tube

I have one in my Schiit Lyr+. Sounds great but I am experiencing issues with microphonics, especially in high gain mode. I have not run anything else in the Lyr+ except the stock tube. Definitely more tubey than stock but I'm not one to write a more extensive review. I decided to keep it. Do let...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

THIS. I saw Axel Grell's presentation at CanJam SoCal 23 and this is essentially what he spent the hour covering, distilled down to a short blog post. The drivers are not positioned in front to simulate speakers in front of you. They are there because it is the optimal position for the lowest...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

Drop's FR graph is off of a B&K 5128. So you'll want to find graphs off of that same rig if you want to compare. Listener's 5128 database is here: https://listener800.github.io/5128.html Here's his graph of the LCD-5: I don't see an MM-500 graph :frowning2: It looks like your point is still...

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

Just for giggles, I pulled Drop's published FR into WebPlotDigitizer and then uploaded it to Listener's B&K 5128 graphing tool and overlayed his (Headphones.com's?) preference bounds. NOTE: The OAE1 measurement has been compensated to 5128 DF in the above graph in order to make this comparison

    AXEL GRELL HEADPHONE

The offset and angle of the driver makes no difference to the desired FR measurement. I made the same mistake thinking about the HD800S measurement but was corrected by an expert. When you think about it, the desired FR at the ear drum is the same regardless of how it is produced. I preordered...

Frequency response at the ear drum

If we agree that IEMs (and OE headphones) are minimum-phase and therefore the FR contains all of the IR information, then it seems to me that FR contains all of the information that describes how an IEM can sound. And if that is true then it follows that two IEMs with the same FR at the ear drum...

32 Ohms There is a specifications section near the bottom of that page just above the Media Gallery.

DMS Project Omega - Now Available for Pre-Order

Agreed. Luckily I briefly heard a pre-production model at CanJam SoCal 2023 and was impressed. In the video DMS mentions that they will be at this year's CanJam SoCal and Dallas. There are many things I like about this project and the product: it is designed to be durable and fixable yet...

    Schiit Lyr+ : Impressions Thread

For most headphones I would agree with everything you said. But my experience is that the HD800S are truly special on tubes. I have the HD6XX and tubes make little difference to my ears. But I didn't even like my HD800S until I tried them off of a Schiit Vali 2+. They seemed to gain a...

Best of the Best: Meet the Apos Ray 6SN7 Reserve Vacuum Tube

After a long 3 week wait, I finally got my replacement 6SN7 Reserve last week. I'm using it with the Schiit Lyr+ and returned the first one because I experienced loud microphonics in the left channel. The replacement also has microphonics, this time in the right channel, but at a much lower...

Best of the Best: Meet the Apos Ray 6SN7 Reserve Vacuum Tube

My Reserve is approved for return to Apos. Since it is only the left channel having issues, I think it is the tube rather than an issue with using a Reserve with a Schiit Lyr+. Apos support apparently agrees. I did do a quick A/B with the stock Lyr+ Tung Sol tube before packing the Reserve. I...

Best of the Best: Meet the Apos Ray 6SN7 Reserve Vacuum Tube

Schiit Lyr+ owners considering this tube might want to wait. I received one a couple of days ago and the microphonics are really bad. Any time I touch the Lyr+ or even slightly move the headphone cable (Hart Cables replacement) there's noise in the left channel. On low gain it's bearable as I...

    The Qudelix-5K thread

Thanks for the links. I get it now. Use SPK-EQ to tune your headphones to a specific target curve. Use USR-EQ to further tune those for specific uses (EX: movies, music), music types (EX: EDM, classical), moods, etc. I actually find value in this approach. Another use case is if you know how...

    AZ Head-Fi Mini-Meet Impressions Thread (2024-2-17)

Thanks so much @koover for inviting me and hosting! I had a great time! Met a lot of cool peeps! Everyone was so nice and I learned a lot just from chatting, especially with @koover, @M3NTAL, and @SpeleoFool. I wish I could have stayed longer. @rollinbr's setup stood out to me for it's super...

Earplugs to lower db that still sound good?

Try this: https://www.hearingtracker.com/earplugs?q=best+earplugs I've used the Etymotic ER20xs with foam inserts for a few years now. This article did not change my mind. I'd rather have them be bassy but attenuate better in the higher frequencies where hearing is most prone to damage.

    AZ Head-Fi Meet: November 18th, 2023

I had a such a great time! It was so much fun meeting a bunch of local enthusiasts and trying out new to me equipment! Shout out to @Coolzo for making all the arrangements and setting up the SchiitKit! I hope to see you all again next year if not sooner!

    AZ Head-Fi Meet: November 18th, 2023

I wasn't going to use this gathering as a storefront but since I do have quite a few things I no longer actively use, I should probably bring them in case anyone is interested. So if it's ok in addition to: - Schiit Folkvangr - Schiit Bifrost 2/64 - Schiit Midgard - Sennheiser HD800S - Audeze...
