Tube rolling thread | UltraSonic Studios
Lol. Tried to use a screwdriver to adjust the B+ between the C3M adapters and couldn’t get the screwdriver to lock in place. Shined a flashlight on it only to find the pot isn’t slotted. It’s the only one that isn’t lol. Maybe this particular combo just isn’t meant to be lol.- Isaacc7

Hey, don’t shoot the messenger! Like I said, no one else has reported a problem so this could be a one off. Nobody is perfect. Thinking back, we did have a last minute change with the power transformer. It’s possible he tacked some things together to test and then forgot to go back and redo it...- Isaacc7

Not that you’ll see this but I need to say that got me going was the “Too bad you’re too poor to actually have a good system” attitude. The GEC kt88 and el34 metal base tubes are obviously great tubes and you can get great sound out of them. I’ve seen too many people get locked in to the idea...- Isaacc7

Heh, I saw posts from at least one owner of one of his amps that would have made me crazy, I’m sure I know who you’re talking about. I’m also sure I made him a bit crazy while he cleared up some things to me but at least I never pestered him after I got the amp:) BTW, I’m not slandering Tomas...- Isaacc7

Tube rolling thread | UltraSonic Studios
I got my amp back from the tech. Told my sad tale on the main Oblivion thread. One other thing the tech mentioned is that I should probably start my vt60 tubes at a lower voltage and then move them to operating voltage once they had warmed a bit. I figured that was probably a good idea. The main...- Isaacc7

Got my amp back from the tech and it’s not good news. Everyone should know that I love how my amp sounds and the flexibility that it gives me in my tube adventures. Having said that, it is incredibly frustrating to learn that my beloved amp just wasn’t put together all that well. To recap...- Isaacc7

If you are just starting out, the 6bg6 tubes are essentially the same thing as the 807 but they are less expensive. Here’s the thing, as far as I can tell the 6bg6 was only made by US manufacturers. Nothing wrong with that of course, I love my RCA and Sylvania 6bg6. My relationship with the GE...- Isaacc7

McChanson amps tube rolling thread
The price of a tube is determined, like everything else, by supply and demand. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, there are significant factors driving up demand for specific types of tubes. Guitarists have been steadily chewing through supplies of the best kt66, 6l6gc, and el34 tubes for 6...- Isaacc7

I am fairly certain that is a vt60 made by Ediswan. That plate is really distinctive.- Isaacc7

I’m confused, I would expect a Sylvania and an RCA tube to sound different. It wouldn’t surprise me if the metal 6l6 and 807 from the same manufacturer sounded similar when run at 6l6 specs. And, uh, which one sounded like RCA black plate 6l6gc? Asking for a friend… lol- Isaacc7

I do not. I have a vague memory of 1970s for some reason but that could be a figment of my imagination. I neatened up a bit while my amp was in the shop and so I’m not exactly sure where the boxes are for my 5a/152m lol.- Isaacc7

This came up in a tube rolling thread but I think it is more appropriate here. I think the 807 is the equal of any other pentode within its power range, no reason why they shouldn’t be. After all, they are pretty much a 6l6 tube with the anode connection moved to the top so it can handle more...- Isaacc7
