I have the V7 Classic, SS2590, Staccato OSH-DHB, NewClassD Ultimate Edition mk 1, SS3602, and SIL 994 opamps knocking around. The last of these are noisy regardless, so I don't use them. I haven't tried the V7 Vivid because I was no fan of the V6 Vivid. I know it's different but I suspect the...

Storm works really well with the XD05. Full desktop systems bring out a little extra, imho, but a really good portable such as the XD05, 320MAX, or M9 Plus should work well enough. I'm still undecided which DAC module suits the best in the XD05, but am thoroughly enjoying the ROHM module at the...

That should be a great combination. Crimson is a brilliant IEM and pairs very well with the XD05 PRO as a DAC and amp. I was testing that a lot yesterday. Love the use of Lego too - I should try that!

I agree with your choice of FIR3 for the AKM - Short Delay Sharp Roll Off. I also agree about the ROHM filters having a more significant effect - I far prefer FIR2 - Slow Roll Off - personally. I spent a fascinating afternoon comparing a newly modified XD05 PRO with my more stock unit...

Look forward to an update when you have some time, Mike. I've just received a pair of Staccato OSH-DHB opamps so will be trying those over the weekend. I'm really interested in your view of the SIL 994s. I have a pair and have found they're the only opamps I've tried that have background noise...

That looks pretty cool. I use a Quloos QU02 DDC with my XD05 all the time. It also feeds my other DACs and makes a significant difference in terms of PRaT compared to running any of the DACs direct from USB. Look forward to an update once you've received it and had time to test.

How did you connect the XD05 to L70? Did you use single-ended 3.5mm output to RCA input, or balanced 4.4 output to XLR input from the XD05 to L70? The opamp section is indeed in the amplifier section of the XD05. If you've connected the XD05 to L70 via either of the means above, you should...

Cool, thank you. I couldn't find any info on the filters so that's very helpful.

Sure thing. The only sources I've found are below: https://www.hificollective.co.uk/components/newclassdopamps.html https://vtvamplifier.com/product/new-classd-ultimte-mkii-dual-discrete-opamp-dip8-vtv-amplifier/

I've been doing some testing of the NewClassD Ultimate Edition opamps today, using the ROHM DAC module. In comparison to the SS3602s, the NewClassDs add more depth and body without overpowering any frequency. Stage is wider and deeper, although still lacking a little height. Instrument...

Very interesting to read about the V7 Vivids. I had the V6 Vivids and Classics in my Burson 3X GT amp, but swapped out the Vivids because I didn't like them in that amp. I have a few opamps to test in the XD05 PRO, and may add the V7 Vivids based on comments above.

That sounds sensible advice. I would add you can do better than SS3602 if you're using external opamps anyway. SS2590s are a significant step up, for one. I have some additional opamps that just arrived to try over the coming few days.

Apologies, I had an XD05 PRO on trial last August for a week or so, but only bought one in the last few weeks so skipped about 100 pages of posts. I never use Turbo mode so it doesn't bother me regardless. As you say, more interesting to focus on other topics.

I'm not sure I want to venture back down the charger rabbit hole, but can you clarify what you mean by, "you can't use Turbo mode"? I'm using a GaN USB-C desktop charging station with my XD05. It shows it's delivering 12V to the XD05 whether in Eco, Normal or Turbo modes, no issues as far as I...

There are a couple of options I'd consider, which I think you refer to: 1) USB-C to USB-C - you'll just use the M6 Ultra as your music source, so the XD05 PRO acts as DAC and amp 2) Line Out from M6U to Line In on XD05 PRO - assuming you have a proper balanced Line Out function in the M6U (not...

I asked one of my friends about this, and he knows a lot more about DACs that I do. His recommendation was to "use I2S if your DAC has that digital input. The native language DACs see is I2S, all other digital inputs are converted to I2S internally anyway hence why using that input, if...

Unfortunately there are always compromises to be made, aren't there? The XD05 PRO with SS3602s is still, to my ears, a brilliant-sounding device. Trying different opamps is a fun experiment and one I'll continue when time permits, but I'm more than happy with the 3602s for transportable duties...

I've been trying an alternative approach to opamp rolling with the XD05 PRO. I have a Little Bear B4-X amp that allows for opamp rolling, so have tried the Sonic Imagery Labs 994s in that unit. They work perfectly so I wonder if the output from the DAC stage in the XD05 is just too much for the...

Thanks for sharing the link to the pci-e card - that's great. I'm in the UK so have the same issues with Taobao, plus I can't read Chinese. Google Translate helps to some extent, but it feels we're still a bit restricted in terms of access to some great options here in Europe.

I think the pci-e approach is the simplest way of installing larger opamps. Others here have posted more advanced solutions that require modifying the opamp board; my soldering skills are woeful so I've avoided that! The pci-e card will stick up when installed so you need some sort of cover to...

I've been doing a little more testing with alternative opamps. I have a pair of Sonic Imagery Labs 994Enh-Ticha opamps, which are either faulty or don't get on at all well with the XD05. There's a lot of background noise compared to any other opamp I've tried so I've ruled those out. I've been...

I wouldn't and haven't, personally. It depends on your use case, of course, but I think the case is too nice to put feet on it. Also, it doesn't seem to require the (marginal) additional cooling feet would provide.

My pci-e cards arrived the other day so I've finally had time for some initial testing with the SS2590s in XD05 PRO. Despite the clear lack of practicality, I feel the SS2590s enhance the sound quite significantly. I've only spent 30 mins listening so have yet to draw firm conclusions. The stage...
