You're not going to turn an unbalanced amp into a balanced amp by cable hacks. That's not how it works. It's all in the design of the amp itself. As I said in my post above (post #22) balanced is not necessarily better than single ended. It's more of how the amp/DAC itself is designed to run...

Thanks for the analysis. My Pontus II 12th-1 came from Denafrips with 1.4 installed, so in reading your description of 1.4, I find it to be pretty much spot on. And yes, on bad recordings, the Pontus will let you know; just as it does on great recordings. Anyway, I plan on sticking with 1.4

Uh, be aware they do make dedicated DDCs such as Denafrips Iris DDC which come in around $550 U.S. dollars. And yes, it's worth every penny. I have one, and now wouldn't be without one. And they're not just for CDs, but for digital sources coming from USB sources such as streaming or digital...
