That's a big tube, it must light up the room. You definitely need a top shelf for that.

Changed the feet. The other setup made the preamp prone to tilting in the rear. I was pleasantly surprised to see that treaded holes were provided in the rear, although it came with just the one spike foot in the rear. That rear one is sealed tight not to be removed it seems.

The caps came today and I installed them. What a difference, clean airy highs, sweet midrange, solid bass. No more sloppy bass, everything got more detailed. Can't wait for the burn in.

The 5u4g probably surged the cap on turn on. That's why a 5ar4 is safer to use. It has a slow heat up, less surge.

I would be pissed, mine did smoke when I first turned it on, but was ok the second time. I heard from another forum that they were out of stock already. I think they are rushing them out without proper checking and packaging .

Sounding really nice now with about 30 hours on it. Rolled out the stock tubes for a GE 5ar4, two JJ ec88/6922, and a Sovtek 6922 in the rear. The new tubes has about 8 hours so far. Have a nice new set of Teslas 6dj8 saving for another day. Probably after I roll the caps. Also need to change...

Well, here is a picture of the cap, it says pb8.2, I was thinking maybe the pb8 is the model number, and maybe it’s a .2uf. But that would be too low. See what you think.

Already rolled the rectifier tube to a GE 5ar4, sounds good, think I will keep that there. Looking at the cap values, the coupling caps are 8.2uf, that seems high compared to what the manual suggests. Anyone else sees that in theirs. The power filter cap is a 6.8uf.
