The Watercooler -- Impressions, philosophical discussion and general banter. Index on first page. All welcome.
Finally got around to writing some impressions of my favourite cable here. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/nightjar-acoustics-lounge.971854/page-3#post-18152893 There are not that many impressions of the Nightjar Sovereign Symphony and I couldn't even find a product page to write a review. Nightjar Acoustics Lounge
A meet up with NightJar Acoustic's Chang I first discovered NightJar acoustics serendipitously listening to a rather unique looking IEM that was passed onto me by a fellow friend and audiophile. That IEM was Storm. I knew nothing about it. Once tips were dialled in, it was instantly...- Tanalasta

Elysian Annihilator 2023
Alter Ego received a lot of hype. Itโs not a โbadโ IEM although I wasnโt a (personal preference) fan of boosted Bass / low mids (of the bass switched on). The titanium shell is lovely to hold and looks very durable. The timbre is quite nice. You could be happy with it. Techs could be better but...- Tanalasta

Woo Audio WA11 Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV
You need the older USB standard which is the On the Go cable. Itโs one of my frustrations with the WA11 and why I let it go. I may have one somewhere. Trouble is I never tagged them so I donโt know if they are until you try. WA11 has lots of power the but the inbuilt DAC and resolution I...- Tanalasta

Eletech Cables Official Impressions & Discussions Thread
Argh!! Rubbing it in ... I am hoping there may be the option of two versions. Personal preferences aside, I'm optimistic about Romeo and having listened to Eric's cables am in alignment with his preferences. Listening to Jackie Cheung at the moment rather than modern electronic beats...- Tanalasta

Norne Audio (Was: Norse Audio): Feedback & Impression Thread
1. Oh yes. I've sent Trevor and restarted email correspondence. I may have to put in bold and underline "place me in your production queue pretty please" :) 2. I have a Vykari V2 fusion cable that I alternative between the Utopia and LCD-5 (using a short adapter). It is all that and more. There...- Tanalasta

Eletech Cables Official Impressions & Discussions Thread
Tips are very personal. In terms fit and sonically. However, would imagine baroque would work well. Versa means theyโre interchangeable from 2 pin to other connectors eg. CFA use a different termination I would suggest Raphael or OTL from eletechs range but tbh the stock cable ainโt bad if...- Tanalasta

Norne Audio (Was: Norse Audio): Feedback & Impression Thread
What would one suggest pairing with the LCD-5. SC5 4 v 8 wire? I've just shot Trevor an email. In the meantime, using an adapter with my Vykari v2 which seems amazingly versatile paired to either the LCD-5 and Utopia 2022. Amazing clarity and detail retrieval. I would love something more lush...- Tanalasta

Eletech Cables Official Impressions & Discussions Thread
โฆ waiting patiently for more news on Romeo. Things have gone a bit quiet since CJ. Whilst I have successfully cable rolled an Eletech cable whilst on a freeway (I strongly do not recommend it) I was unable to take a photo at the same time. Though I'm reposting this photo. Absolutely love how...- Tanalasta

Thereโs a lot of personal preference. They are also mostly very different. What about them didnโt resonate with you? Though I see on the โrank the IEM threadโ you preferences VEX, onyx and phonix https://www.head-fi.org/threads/rank-the-iems-youve-heard.454855/page-344#post-18144181 Did you...- Tanalasta

How are you finding the Pilgrim? Back to sets that bring me joy. Rediscovering one of the pairings that sent me down the rabbit hole of โthereโs better out thereโ Listening to the venerable Campfire Audio Andromeda 2020. Iโm yet to hear another CFA IEM tuned like it. My first cable roll to an...- Tanalasta

[ Not the best picture. Very much enjoy OTL. Thereโs little doubt a flagship cable can fine tune and improve the technicalities of a capable IEM. Tighter, well textured but still authorative bass. Improved clarity etcโฆ What am I enjoying? Reposting a photo.- Tanalasta

Bumping an old thread. Recently been introduced to GAudio as a brand by Audio Geek but am yet to hear their releases. Oriolus Traillii Electrostatic Hybrid IEM discussion thread
If you donโt mind a slightly warm offering the Hiby R8ii seems to be often suggested. Trailii does scale with desktop gear (try it with TT2) but sounds great out of a technically capable DAP- Tanalasta

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION โ Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related โ a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.
At the price point Iโd expect it to compare to the Bose headsets. Reminds me a tad of the Apple Max also. Wireless ANC headsets are what they are. Keen to listen but would be surprised if sonically they surprised Bathys. Connectivity and TV use sounds promising though- Tanalasta

THE WATERCOOLER HEADPHONE EDITION โ Headphones, Amps, DACs, and desktop/home audio related โ a freewheeling discussion of gear, impressions, music, and musings.
I wonder if I had gone down the 'buy a nice tube amp' pathway I may have ended up with a different headphone chain than I eventually pursued. The "easy to drive all rounder". Found myself picking up the Utopia often enough I let the HD800S go. Unfortunately it meant that it didn't save me a ton...- Tanalasta

Focal Utopia General Discussion
Solid state as opposed to Tube amp. They have different tonality and imaging with a tube amp being more analogue. Traditionally. Thereโs a lot of variability etc etc โฆ I found the 800S with stock cable a little thin, too spacious / wide and bass was superior for Utopia. Utopia may also be more...- Tanalasta

What were your mistakes you made buying your first or buying any IEM?
1. I kept re-buying the same IEM when one side broke (non replaceable cables) ... I think I went through 4 pairs of Sony 888's. 2 pairs of Ety4P and 3 pairs of Shure 530/535. On a student budget. Lots more options these days. 2. Not buying second hand. Why be an early adopter? You rarely...- Tanalasta

Very much source and personal preference dependent. Layering, detail and timbre remain very good. Utopia has always reflected the quality of its source chain. Worth auditioning before deciding.- Tanalasta

Hugo 2/2Go - love it. Though I've wondered lately if I should try the 1950's or Orpheus wired PWA Chord2 adapter. Extra 1% ... Can't find anyone who has done the vertical in the adapters to review. Depends whether you are a cable geek. I very much enjoyed visiting the Eletech office to try their new cables.
