Reasonably priced all-in-one DAC/amp combo units with extreme power output?
Thanks for the suggestions. Does the SMSL DO400 have enough power to properly drive the Hifiman HS6seV2? It has 3W into 32ohms - and the HE6seV2 is 50ohms, and is said to need 2W into 50ohms. So I'm not sure if having 3W into 32ohms means having at least 2W into 50ohms...?- cactus_farmer

Schiit Jotunheim Review / Preview - Head-Fi TV
I also just experienced this ringing phenomenon. Seemed only to happen in high gain using balanced outout for the Hifiman HE6seV2. Went away with turning it off and on again. Has happened twice now. Does this sort of ringing distortion damage the drivers and/or voicecoil of the headphones?- cactus_farmer

Reasonably priced all-in-one DAC/amp combo units with extreme power output?
Does anything rival the Schiit Jotunheim (with built-in DAC) at that price for a DAC/amp combo unit that offers at least 2-3 watts into 50ohms? Most other combo units I have seen with this power output are in the >$1000 range?- cactus_farmer

Audeze - MM-Series - MM-500
I am about to order an Audeze MM-500 B stock ('new' condition, but a customer who has returned the product). One thing I am worrying about is how feasible is it with these returned products that someone could have bought both an MM 100 and an MM 500, then swapped the MM 500 driver into the MM...- cactus_farmer

Sennheiser HD 490 Pro Plus coming?
What is the fit like on these? I'm one of the few people that love the HD650's clamp because of how secure they are on the head. I feel I could do a backflip and they still wouldn't budge out of position. Does the 490 Pro have a similarly secure fit on the head? Even if you have a...- cactus_farmer

DAC amp combo with AKM chip + class A amp + very high power output?
Does such a thing exist on the market? I need an AKM DAC chip (or an R2R DAC), class A amp operation, and enough juice to drive the Hifiman HE6... Thanks in advance for any suggestions...- cactus_farmer

Mod House Audio Tungsten - Planar Magnetic Headphones - Impressions and Discussion
They've been out for a while now - so do the Mod House Tungsten slam as hard and are they as physical in the bass as the OG Hifiman HE6? Preferably, from someone who's managed to A/B both of them...? (Might be a bit of an ask given the rarity of the OG HE6) And would that refer to the SS or...- cactus_farmer

High fidelity OVER-EAR ear defenders?
There are lots of in-ear hearing protection products that claim to attenuate the sound pressure level whilst preserving frequency response (for use at music venues, live music, drum practice...etc...), but are there any over-ear solutions that do the same? Not everyone can tolerate in-ear...- cactus_farmer

Sennheiser HD800 S Impressions Thread (read first post for summary)

I don't want to detach the cable from the headphone every time I store it because of multiple reports of the cable connection point breaking when attempting to detach...- cactus_farmer

Massdrop x Focal Elex Review & Measurements
The Elex, Elear and Clear all use an aluminium driver. Aluminium (unlike steel or magnesium) does not have a 'fatigue limit' - meaning that it can only withstand a finite, limited number of deformation cycles before it fails completely and therefore deforms without returning to its original...- cactus_farmer

Mod House Audio Tungsten - Planar Magnetic Headphones - Impressions and Discussion
How is the dynamics, macro-contrast, slam, and impact (i.e. overall sense of physical tactility) on this headphone? Do kick drums hit with the force of the entire universe imploding? The Tungsten is meant to be the spiritual successor to the Hifiman HE6 - and by most accounts the most special...- cactus_farmer

Audeze LCDX Vs Hifiman HE6
Just digging up this thread because it reminds me of back in the day when everyone used to say that the LCDx had more 'slam' or 'punch' than the Hifiman HE6, but then Resolve from The Headphone Show started saying that no actually the HE6 has more slam than pretty much any headphone including...- cactus_farmer

Schiit Jotunheim 2 - Impressions Thread
It's strange though, because using a different DAC/amp (Topping DX5) with Qobuz, there are no clicks or pops - only the Jotunheim 2 + Qobuz combo produces the small pop noises. But do those pops send high voltage spikes to the headphones to fry the voice coils? They're pretty quiet - but I...- cactus_farmer

Schiit Jotunheim 2 - Impressions Thread
I'm not sure what's going on. In Qobuz, if I use one USB port plugged into the Jotunheim, I a get a tiny pop before playback of a track, if I use another USB port plugged into it I get a tiny pop after playback. If I use any other player (Spotify, Apple Music...etc...) there are no pops at all.- cactus_farmer

Schiit Jotunheim 2 - Impressions Thread
Update, the issue actually resolved when plugging in the Jotunheim to another USB port on my USB hub... Still, is it possible that the tiny popping noise I heard on stopping tracks when it was plugged into the other port could have damaged my headphones drivers?- cactus_farmer

Does anyone hear a tiny pop that is audible in the headphones about half a second after stopping playback of a track (but leaving the amp on - not switching it off)...? How easy is it for an underpowered amp to damage headphones?
Yeh, my understanding is that you should rather connect a headphone to a literal nuclear power station that will obliterate your eardrums at 0.0001% of the volume pot than connect it to a slightly underpowered amp. You can actually never damage a headphone by giving it too much power (even if...- cactus_farmer

How easy is it for an underpowered amp to damage headphones?
I have the Arya V2 though (not the Stealth magnet version) which has lower sensitivity and requires more power. Even though I didn't hear any audible distortion when running it with the dongle DAC - could I have been causing micro-damage that will slightly degrade the sound quality?- cactus_farmer
