His issue has nothing to do with the Red. Personally, I've had zero issues - I find it quite easy to use.

Probably the loud minority that have put a lot of their issues on this thread and/or unrelated issues. That said, it doesn’t instill a lot of confidence because there isn’t a lot of user feedback or reviews of the device on the internet/youtube with the exception of this thread.

Mine runs since many months with zero issues - why write about it here then? Guess this might be true for many other happy users….

The loud minority seem to have self inflicted issues, it's not the Red. Not liking or not understanding the capabilities doesn't necessarily mean its a product issue (IMO) . . .

My Red has been FLAWLESS, with HQP/NAA and with Roon direct. I’d highly recommend the Red if you’re after a highly optimized Pi based streamer.

Can this upsample to DSD 512 with HQ Player? I wouldnt think its internal processor is powerful enough for that, though i read somewhere about it playing hqplayer dsd512.

Edit. I see it is just connected via ethernet to the HQplayer machine.

I just got a text for DHL package from Hong Kong, im excited, going to try it as a DDC first then try it as a streamer, currently using a Node X yikes I need a new USB Cable and Coax Cable.

I got my red yesterday, tried to connect the node x to it as a ddc did the turn off and on with usb in and I couldn’t get a signal out of the spdif coaxial. Tried it as a streamer with tidal connect and wow it sounds amazing, I still want to use it as a ddc because I use the node x with hdmi for watching anime. Did anyone else face any issues with using the unit as a ddc?

I just jumped in this thread a sec ago so maybe I say something covered already, anyways here it goes:

Updated to latest version 2024.04.21

Initially to shift from DDC to streamer one had to connect/disconnect the usb input lead in combination with a off/on restart.

I noticed the restart is not necessary, just connect usb-in lead and it becomes DDC. Just pull the usb-in lead out and it immediately becomes streamer. No switching of the on/off switch, let in ON. The transfer from ddc-streamer happens on the fly as you use the usb-in socket, or not.
