Really? This will blow your mind. Not just do they balance the pressure perfectly, because of that, closed IEMs will sound better than ever before because the pressure influences the sound quality in a bad way.Wait, foam tips balance air pressure? I actually didn't know that...
Especially Bass and Soundstage get improved by a lot.
The reason for this is pretty simple, they let through air. Not enough to influence the sound in a bad way, but enough to compensate pressure.
I personally use AIRISM because to me, they have the best comfort/sound but also made good experience if XCessor and Moondrops MIS Tips.
But yes. Closed IEM + Foam --> Highly recommended. Best Sound Quality + Best Comfort for hours. I can easily wear my IER-M9 for 4+ hours with not even the slightest hint of pressure issue.
In Addition to that, the noise isolation will significantly increase. Closed IEM + Foam = Earplugs.
Westone Audio for example highly recommends Foam Tips for best sound quality and isolation. They use Comply (which i haven't tested yet but are supposed to modify the sound in, as some people think, negative way).
Just don't use the Foam provided by FiiO, they sound horrible, to pretty much everyone. They will completely kill the bass 100%
I use my FA9 for example with the MIS Tips in smallest size (because they go pretty deep in) and they can easily be used as hearing protection even isolating stronger than some earplugs.
